Monitoring and assessment to achieve the goals of sustainable development

             The international assessmentseminar "Sustainable development goals (SDGs): Making a difference through assessment" is taking place in Hanoi (November 21-25) with the participation of hundreds of international delegates, including high-level officials from 20 countries, politicians, policy makers, appraisers, scholars and officials of non-governmental organizations.

              The seminar was organized by the Asia-Pacific Evaluation Association (APEA) in collaboration with Vietnam Network for Monitoring and Evaluation (VNME), EvalPartners, the International Organization for Cooperation in Evaluation (IOCE) and Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

            Arunaselam Rasappan, President ofthe Asia-Pacific Evaluation Association, said: "The event is one of the major contribution to support the implementation of the SDGs and improve the performance of countries in the world participating in these goals. We expect through this conference to devise new and innovative ideas to strengthen SDGs across all countries, including Vietnam."

            Reportedly, at the United Nations Summit in September 2015, Vietnam committed to mobilize all resources, ministries, branches, localities, organizations, communities and people to successfully implement Agenda 2030 and the sustainable developmentgoals.

             Currently, the Ministry of Planning and Investment iscoordinating with the concerned parties to finalize a national action draftplan on the Agenda 2030. Accordingly, the global goals and targets by 2030 have been nationalized to suit the conditions of Vietnam. In particular, monitoring and assessment is among the significant contents. Vietnam expects to receive the cooperation and assistance from developed countries, international organizations, including the international organizations in monitoring and assessmentduring the process of implementing the SDGs in Vietnam.
