Maximizing wind power potential

Vietnam has plentiful wind power source

At the wind power in Vietnam workshop held by the Denmark Embassy and Vestas Company on November 29 in Hanoi, experts considered that wind power capacity in Vietnam is still limited regardless of its high potential.

Particularly, with the coastal line of more than 3200 km, Vietnam has an area ofabout 2700 km2 to develop wind power with approximate 10,000 MW electricity in the mainland while the existing installed capacity is only 159.2 MW.
To maximizing wind power potential, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Hoang Quoc Vuong said that the Government of Vietnam is completing legal framework as well as improving efficiency of organization system and management manner in this sector. Particularly, to implement the direction of the Prime Minister, MOIT (Ministry of Industry and Trade) has researched and regulated the price of wind-generated electricity at different levels which applied for projects at the mainland and on the sea then generally applied nationwide towards increased price of wind-generated electricity according to the Decision No. 37/2011/QD-TTg.
Accompany with the Government of Vietnam in development of clean energy sources, the Ambassador of Denmark to Vietnam Mrs. Charlotte Laursen said Denmark cansponsor wind power projects under the framework of business supporting program of DANIDA through preferential loans.
On the aspect of Danish enterprises, thanks to the success ofconstruction of Phuc Lac 1 wind power plant in Binh Thuan province, the VESTA Company commits to support Vietnam in effective exploitation of wind power potential as well as to establish the national wind power association under the global wind power association.
